about.
Welcome to The Autumn Gloaming, a place where weird things emerge from heretofore unknown places. Here we celebrate ghosts, the Gothic, Dark Nature and folklore ~ and Hallowe’en never truly ends.
My name is Angela Juhl and I create everything here at the Gloaming. While watercolors are my primary medium, I also work in linocut and collage.
I love exploring new mediums, which likely means I will never be a “master of one.”
In the last year I’ve begun using charcoal and graphite to create ethereal pieces inspired by Stephen Gammell, illustrator of “Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark,” a series of children’s books that were deeply formative to my person (and that of many other darkly-inclined individuals).
Moreover, I sculpt and create articulated dolls.
Currently I am working on bringing my signature (and terribly toothy) “Ghosts of the Gloaming” into the Third Dimension.
They are coming soon to haunt your home: Watch This Space.
When I’m not making things you might catch me reading in the cemetery or sketching at a coffee shop. I grew up on (and still adore) the old Universal monster movies as well as 80s horror classics like “An American Werewolf in London” and “Fright Night.” Silent films are some of my favorites. I have an MA in English literature (where I focused on 19th Gothic writing) and an MS in library science. Having a deep appreciation for children’s picture books, it is one of my abiding dreams to write and publish one someday. I often attend darkwave and postpunk concerts with Samuel, husband and Gomez to my Morticia. We also enjoy tracking the movements of various birds.
